Review of Miss Conception at The Crazy Coqs

Guest post by Simon Darnley

In the heart of Piccadilly, you will find the Parisian ZL Café. Walk through the café and down the sweeping marble staircase with resplendent original art deco posters you will enter the draw droppingly beautiful 1930s art deco foyer of Zedels.  Made up of a golden French brasserie, American Cocktail lounge and cabaret lounge The Crazy Coqs this is truly one of London’s hidden gems.

It was in the Crazy Coqs that me and my partner took our seat early on a Monday evening, themed cocktail in hand to see Kevin Levesque as Miss Conception in action.

Her 25 years of experience really shows, Miss Conception is multitalented and one of the best drag artists we have ever seen.

As soon as she burst onto the stage, we could feel her infectious energy spread right throughout the audience we knew we were in good hands.

Miss Conception has a fantastic voice and vocal range, and the 75-minute running time flew bye as she sang and danced to songs from a wide variety of hit musicals alongside some amazingly clever quick costume changes peeling off layer upon layer to reveal yet another gloriously instantly recognisable outfit.

Between songs from the likes of Rent, Hairspray, Cabaret, Moulin Rouge, The Sound of Music, and the Rocky Horror picture show Miss Conception worked the room with her cheeky quick witted self-depreciating humour.

This is a great show, high energy, and tightly produced mixing in humorous scripted remarks with wonderful adlibs. I was exhausted just watching her!

By the end we were all beaming, singing, and waving along and I’m sure we would have all been up dancing had The Crazy Coqs allowed.

We really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend Miss Conception to anyone with a pulse.

We were out by 8:15pm  in time for a Beef Bourguignon in the French Brasserie.
